Job Title: Travel Counselor
Reports to: President & CEO
Hours: Part-Time & On Call
Louisiana’s Cajun Bayou Tourism, Lafourche Parish’s destination marketing organization, is seeking a part-time & on call Travel Counselor to join our team.
SUMMARY:
As a front-line representative of the Lafourche Parish tourism industry, this position is responsible for welcoming visitors to the Louisiana’s Cajun Bayou Welcome Center and providing accurate, up-to-date information about local and regional tourism offerings. This includes but is not limited to assisting with wayfinding, accommodations, attractions, events, and seasonal activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- - Maintain a strong working knowledge of Lafourche Parish’s tourism assets, including accommodations, dining, retail, attractions, events, exhibits, seasonal activities, and related visitor services.
- - Respond to walk-in, telephone, and online inquiries with professionalism and accuracy.
- - Record daily visitor counts and referrals to local tourism partners.
- - Assist with brochure inventory, ordering, and organization of storage and display areas.
- - Enter visitor data into spreadsheets and reporting tools.
- - Represent the CVB at local events and community functions, as needed.
- - Complete assigned cleaning and maintenance tasks at the Welcome Center.
- - Perform additional duties as assigned by the President & CEO.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- - Must be able to work a part-time schedule of two to three days per week and every other Saturday. Flexibility is required to work uncovered shifts as needed, with hours subject to change based on seasonal needs. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
- - Demonstrates the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and customer service; contributes to brand trust and promotes the tourist commission’s reputation as a top-tier destination marketing organization.
- - Able to work under pressure, manage time effectively, multitask, and maintain high-quality output.
- - Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and respond effectively to public inquiries.
- - Pleasant and hospitable demeanor; committed to always delivering outstanding visitor service.
- - Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- - Ability to operate a multi-line phone system and standard office technology efficiently.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- - A combination of relevant training, experience, and education that meets the job description.
- - Hospitality and tourism industry experience desired but not required.
- - A strong passion for Lafourche Parish, our Cajun heritage, and Cajun culture.
- - Bilingual communication skills—particularly in French and/or Cajun French—are desirable.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- - Must be able to stand for extended periods and engage with visitors consistently.
- - Some lifting required for brochure restocking and handling supply boxes.
SALARY & BENEFITS
This is an hourly part-time position with a starting hourly wage of $10.50 per hour. Qualifications and experience will be considered when offering the position to the selected candidate. This non-exempt position does not qualify for any additional benefits packages.
